Vote for Hope

I’ve always been adverse to using this blog to share my own political views, but the election is right around the corner, and I feel inclined to do whatever I can to drum up support for my choice… and also, you know, it’s my blog.  I know that your opinion may be different than mine, and I respect that, so I’d prefer to not receive a bunch of nasty comments and/or e-mails.

I was discussing the upcoming election with a friend of mine at work who is leaning toward McCain/Palin.

When I politely asked him “Why?”, he told me “I figure that everyone has one key issue that they are most concerned about.  For me, that issue is gun control and I feel that McCain shares my views.”

I feel the same way.  Well, not necessarily about gun control, but about there being one key issue in the upcoming election that is going to steer my choice.  For me, that issue is health care.  Of course, I care deeply about the economy and the development of alternative fuels, but the one concern that quite literally strikes closest to home is health care.

That is why I’m voting for Barack Obama.  His plan makes sense to me.  I have been fighting with our medical insurance compan(ies) for as long as I’ve had medical insurance.  As a citizen of arguably the greatest democracy in the world, I feel that we as a people should have access to the greatest health care system and not have to pay and arm and a leg for it.  I don’t know if Obama can get us there, but I do believe that he has our best interests at heart and is willing to set us down the right path.  Do I agree with every single one of his policies?  No.  Do I think he can save me a lot of headache?  Potentially, yes.

Even if you don’t agree with me or are currently undecided, I suggest you watch the following video.  It inspires me that Obama has inspired someone else enough to create something like this.

Regardless of your political views, you need to get out and vote. You have no right to complain about the current administration if you don’t do anything to change it.
